*Pictures from the event to come soon* This weekend we celebrated the Purdue Evans Scholars 50th Anniversary. The day started off by having the alumni come by the house were they received tours of their old stopping grounds. They were able to see where all of the current scholars live, how the rooms have changed over time, and all of the additions that have been made to the house. In the chapter room of the house, all of the class paddles, composites, and yearbooks were up for display for alumni to view. After the house tour, all of the current scholars and alumni gathered for pictures and talked before heading to the dinner. The dinner was held at the football stadium(Ross-Ade) in the fifth floor skybox that overlooked the stadium and a majority of campus. Scholars and alumni had a great time talking about the legacy of the house, the university, and a mutual relation to caddying. This was also a chance for recent alumni to catch up with the upperclassmen in the house that they used to live with. After dinner, WGA director of education, Brian Shell, spoke about the history of Evans Scholars on Purdue’s campus, the success that the program has had, and what the future holds for Evans Scholars. Faculty advisor, Leslie Charters, spoke to the alumni about her role on campus as well as her commitment to offer scholars guidance, advice, and act as mentor for all of the scholars. The President of the Alumni Association, Tim McVady, spoke on the pride that comes with being an Evans Scholar, and the bond that all scholars share. He made it very clear that the scholarship changes lives, not just financially, but it offers a sense of a pride that all scholars have, because they worked to get were they are today. Lastly, President of the House, David Smith, talked about the success of the current scholars that includes: a cumulative 3.3 GPA, multiple scholars with internships, co-ops, and full time job offers, large participation in intramural sports, and fund raisers such as Chick’s change and the annual putt-putt philanthropy. Overall the night was very successful and both current scholars and alumni had a great time!
